As co-winemakers at Complant, father and son Daniel and Sam Baron have a unique working relationship. Daniel began his career in the 1970s as a vineyard worker at Chateau Montelena. Having caught the wine bug, he went on to study at UC Davis, become assistant winemaker at Navarro Vineyards, and spend two years working at wineries in France before returning to California to spend 12 years at Dominus. He helped to found Twomey Cellars and served as director of winemaking there and at Silver Oak. Sam grew up amid the Napa Valley vines and, after high school, followed his father’s footsteps to UC Davis to earn a degree in Viticulture and Enology. After internships in New Zealand and Burgundy, he returned to Napa to fulfill a lifelong dream: to make wine alongside his greatest mentor, who also happens to be his father.
