Italian immigrant Francis Usseglio moved to the Rhone Valley in 1931, establishing Domaine Francis Usseglio in 1948.

His two sons, Pierre Usseglio and Raymond Usseglio took up the family trade - Raymond launching his own brand (Raymond Usseglio) in 1960 and Pierre eventually handing on the original family estate to his two sons, Jean-Pierre and Thierry.

The new generation, Jean-Pierre and Thierry, made some changes in the production of their wines, moving to destemming in 2001. They now manage 24 hectares of vineyards spread out over 17 different plots in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

This powerhouse red is built from predominantly Grenache, with small additions of Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. The firm stucture and incredible depth that the region is known for on clear display for all to see.

This will cellar easily for a decade or more. It's a special wine perfect for a special occasion.

We are developing a traditional red Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Half of our vineyards are over 65 years old, the other is about 40 years old. The yields obtained are very low, about 20 to 25 hectoliters per hectare, depending on the vintage. The harvest is always manual and the sorting remains selective. The grapes are scraped and the vatting takes 25 to 30 days. The wines are then aged 50% in oak barrels for 12 and 50% in concrete vats. As a result, we obtain powerful, round wines with pronounced aromas of red fruits and spices. The optimal period for drinking is between 5 and 10 years, depending on tastes and vintages. The red Châteauneuf-du-Pape accompanies meats, dishes in sauce as well as the most tasty cheeses.
