With great ancestors, such as the 2014 vintage (93 WE) & 2015 vintage (90 WE), the Braff Vineyard Big Sur 2017 is a promising wine. Originated in the Braff Vineyard which sits atop a steep and rocky ridge, rising over 1100 feet and overlooking the Big Sur coastline less than a mile in the distance. The exposed coastal location produces tiny quantities of intensely flavored Chardonnay grapes that every year struggle on the fringe of ripeness; struggling against powerful winds, dense fog and cold weather at this extremely rare and beautiful site. The grapes were hand-harvested on September 2017, and were whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented sur lees in 100% French Oak barrels, 25% new oak. Native "wild" yeasts and long cool fermentation with full malolactic occurring naturally. The wine is barrel aged 19 months prior to bottling.

Sense of Place Wines

by Leslie Bowlus
Aromas of pear, lemon, and green apple with pear blossoms and a hint of flint. The flavors are a rich layer of tart apple, green pear, mandarin orange and lemon curd with bright acidity and a mineral backbone.
