Taittinger is probably one of the most renowned Champaign brands around the world. Dating back to 1932 this family owned estate of almost 300 hectares, pioneered by Pierre Taittinger has remained a family owned estate, except of a short period when the family sold to an American investment company but was bought back and remained a family run business since.
Taittinger's top wine being the Comtes de Champagne was pioneered in the 1952 vintage. The grapes are sourced from grand cru vineyards including Avize, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, where oak is used to reveal lovely flavours of brioche and grilled almonds. Bottles are stored for up to 10 years in the Saint-Nicaise chalk pits. Taittinger's flagship is considered as one of the most consistent blanc de blancs from the region. The pigmentation is usually achieved by adding a little red wine to an existing white cuvee, with Pinot Noir being the variety that is typically employed. This method has the great benefit of allowing the cellar master to create batches of rosé according to demand.

This cuvee is indeed only produced in exceptional years, not only for the Chardonnay grapes but also for the Pinot Noir. As the rarest cuvee of Maison Taittinger, it is a legendary champagne appreciated above all else by Rudolf Nureyev, the ballet dancer-choreographer: “ ...When I drink Comtes de Champagne rosé, I do not dance, I fly...
