Symington Family Estates is the only leading Port company in the hands of one family. The Symingtons have been Port producers for five generations since 1882, although they can trace their family's involvement in the Port trade back to 1652, through their ancestor Beatrice Atkinson. The family has led the way in innovation with research in Douro viticulture and the development of the robotic treading lagares, the most significant advance in the production of premium quality Ports in half a century

Winemaker Notes

At the major international wine competitions and tastings, Dow’s Vintage Ports have consistently outperformed all other producers by a substantial margin. They are only produced in years of exceptional quality, on average only two or three times every ten years, when the weather conditions are sufficiently good. The result is long-lived wines possessing impressive backbone and structure, at the drier end of the scale. They are aged in seasoned oak casks for some 18 months and are bottled without any filtration or fining
